My demoreel is up! Click on the link below to view it. I’ll try to update it periodically - It’s already missing some material, but it’s nice to finish things sometimes ;) . The material on the reel is all done by me, except for the elephants dream clips; I selected a few shots in which I had done the bulk of the character animation. Of course, the direction and character rigging is mine, as well as a bit of the modeling. The credit for the rest ( texturing, rendering, lighting…etc ) goes to the orange team. The short clip of the canary flying is my animation test of Feifi, a character made and rigged by Manos Digitales, for the upcoming movie Plumiferos. The music in the reel is by Jan Morgenstern, who also did the sound and music for Elephants Dream.
The streaming video embedded in the page is cortado - an applet written in java by the nice folks at fluendo. The download on the page is for the same ogg (using theora and vorbis encoding- info at xiph ) that’s in the stream. There’s now also an lavc mpeg4/divx encoded avi.
If you have troubles with both the download and the stream, I recommend you try VLC , a nice cross platform (linux, windows, mac) video player that can play almost anything you can throw at it.
I hope you enjoy the reel!
Not terribly pretty or exciting, but it should be functional as a quick way to navigate the site (so long as it doesn’t grow too much). For now, the only thing added is a contact page, since there has been no way of reaching me so far… let the spam begin!
PS- If any of you have the misfortune of using IE please let me know how this looks; it should be a grey bar that stays at the bottom of the window, with the parts of the site (currently “home” and “contact”) selectable at the bottom.
Just got sick of finished a new image, title is temporary. I used blender (what else?) for modelling, rendering and compositing. Some textures were made in the gimp and inkscape, and the final image was taken into the gimp for minor retouches. I’ve posted it on cgtalk and blenderartists, and I’m planning on doing a little animation based in it- though some details will change. Thanks to fateh, andy and matt for your crits and advice, and thanks to bataraza for the great punga pics :)
After the blender conference (more on that later) I had an extra day in Amsterdam before my flight. Ton was kind enough to listen to my prattle about the difficulty- or near impossibility of doing clean, foot-slipping free walkcycles with blender’s stride system, unless the walk path was totally straight. So he sat down and coded (in one day!!! ) a totally new walk system, that is currently in CVS for testing. I wish we had this in Elephants Dream!! however, it should come in hand for Orange 2 and of course Plumiferos. For details on how this works, go checkout cvs, and read Ton’s page here
Advantages for the system are quite cool, for instance, it’s really fast to setup, you animate the walk going forward instead of in place, which means you really see the motion paths of the actual walk while you are animating them- and of course, nice, flexible paths with NO FOOT SLIDING- unless you had slide-y feet in your original anim of course.
